3 Youths Electrocuted in Warri Flood Camp

Some of the over 400 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camped at Cavergina Primary School, Warri, Delta State at the weekend escaped death by the whiskers when a high tension wire snapped and killed three persons.

The incident occurred at about 7.25 p.m. by the gate of the camp where people, including the displaced persons, usual gathered to relax at night.

Some people had clustered at the entrance of the gate to the camp, to patronise traders selling provisions and food items, when suddenly the high tension wire snapped and fell on the three victims.

It was gathered that a fourth person sustained severe burn and was rushed to the Central Hospital, Warri by some policemen stationed close to the camp.

“People milled around those selling things at the entrance of the camp when Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) restored electricity and the wire snapped and fell on them.

Three of them died instantly while the fourth person sustained severe burns and was taken to the hospital by our men and other sympathizsers”, a policeman who witnessed the incident said.

Hundreds of residents thronged the scene of the incident weeping on sighting the charred bodies of the victims while some blamed the PHCN for the tragedy complaining against incessant blackout experienced in the area.

The evacuation of the remains of the victims at about 8.55 p.m. with a state government ambulance van to Central Hospital Warri morgue.

None of the officials of the PHCN along Warri-Sapele road, Warri office was available for comment when our Correspondent visited the office.
