‘Juicy’ board appointments split PDP

‘Juicy’ board appointments split PDP

TEMPERS are reportedly flaring over the sharing of board appointments allotted to the Peoples Democratic Party by the Federal Government.

Our correspondent learnt that the Presidency allotted some board positions to the PDP to be shared among the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

But some members of the party are accusing the NWC members of reserving the juicy agencies for themselves and their cronies.

On receiving the list the Chairman of the party, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, allegedly asked his former Principal Secretary, Alhaji Habu Fari, to allot the positions.

That was before Fari was sacked on Wednesday after the power struggle between the chairman and Secretary of the party, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

However, Oyinlola was said to have protested against the arrangement, insisting that Fari lacked the power to do the allotment.

Sources within the party said Oyinlola argued that as the chief administrative and accounting officer of the party, he should be the one to handle the job.

However, some aggrieved members of the party said the members of the NWC “have short-changed us in the sharing of the federal appointments”.

According to party sources, some zones are not happy with the sharing of the offices as the North-East (tukur’s zone) is said to have been favoured.

A member of the NWC, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “Aggrieved members from the North-Central and South-East are complaining that their zones have been cheated in the allotment.

“In fact, the South-East has described the boards allocated to it as ‘inconsequential’.

Also, a member of the party from the North-Central said in Abuja on Sunday that his zone was not satisfied with the allotment.

He said, “The NWC members have cornered the juicy boards as chairmen and members, while we were recommended for such boards as the National Theatre and other cultural affairs offices.

“We want to know the membership of such boards as the National Airspace Management Agency, Federal Road Maintenance Agency.”

The former members of the NWC were in charge of such boards such as the Aviation, National Identity Cards, Education Trust Fund and Maritime.

Board appointments are believed to be made to reward party loyalists and associates by both the Presidency and the PDP.
