Apart from their acting fees, some Nollywood actresses are bagging big endorsing products and serving as ambassadors for corporate organisations.

With issues like piracy, preference for cable channels/films, lack lustre stories, limited and funding battling the Nigeria’s movie industry, these are not the best of times for its practitioners. Dwindling sales have spurred practitioners to explore the cinemas, yet profitability has not been even.

But these challenges may mean little or nothing to a lucky few as a ray of hopes coming from ‘corporate suitors’ who are beautifying their ‘brides’ with mouth-watering endorsements making them the envy of others.

Genevieve Nnaji appears to be the belle of the moment. The news of the actress’ deal with Coscharis Group, as the ambassador for ERover, filtered in two weeks ago as a rumour. But it did make the major headline on major blogs in the country.

Besides the perks that came with the deal-estimated to be worth $100,000 (about N16m),  in the first six months, the actress  joins international fashion icon and designer Victoria Beckham as an ambassador for the smallest and lightest Range Rover ever produced.

This is not her first time with such a deal. Not a few will recollect once seeing young Nnaji in Pronto and Omo detergent adverts. In 2004, she made headlines when she became the Face of Lux in Nigeria. Six years later she was appointed the ‘Face of MUD Cosmetics’ in Nigeria. Later, she emerged the face of the new Luna Milk.

But another actress, Omoni Oboli, has been signed by manufacturing company PZ Cussons as an ambassador-spokesperson for the beauty care brand – Venus.

The N10m deal will see soft spoken Oboli’s face adorn the new premium Venus skincare range. Only last year, she struck a multi million naira deal to become the new face of Dettol.

Besides these two actresses, Globacom has appointed close to a dozen Nollywood A-list acts as ambassadors – an unrivalled feat in corporate Nigeria. Although some may see the choice of some of its ambassadors as being somewhat questionable, the company has helped improve the standard of movie making in Nigeria. This is because almost all its Nollywood ambassadors have ventured into movie making. And with ample money to spare, a few have invested in quality films.

For instance, Chioma Akpotha, Ini Edo, Funke Akindele, Monalisa Chinda, Desmond Elliot, Nonso Diobi and Uche Jombo have all become producers.

But some of them have been able to take up additional endorsements by the side. In this regard, Edo, Akpotha and Elliot top the list. While Edo endorses Chivita and Noble hair, Akpotha promotes Harpic toilet cleaner while Elliot is a National Agency For Drug Administration and Control ambassador.

For other Nollywood stars like Stephanie Linus, Nkem Owoh and Patience Ozokwor, who are not on the Globacom train, respite has come from Samsung, Kanekalon hair extensions and MTN respectively.

Akindele is also the brand ambassador of popular detergent, ‘So Klin’, and the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, LIRS while Chinda’s smile is being paid for as the face of Vita500, a new energy drink from South Korea. Proir to the jdeal, the light skinned actress was the face of the Rivers State Cultural Festival, Carnival.
