LASTMA officials, under the auspices of the Lagos State Government, today, began towing vehicles parked in front of the General Hospital and Island Maternity Hospital on Broad Street, Marina. It was gathered that prior to the invasion of these tow-trucks, the General Hospital had petitioned the Lagos State government to have all the cars parked in front of their premises removed.
Governor Babatunde Fashola on Sunday said, during the celebration of his 2,000 days in office, “If you cannot contain your vehicles inside your premises, we will come and take them away.”
Before today, there were men in front of the hospital giving out Lagos State issued parking tickets at N100 or N200 sometimes. This means that all cars parked in front of the premises were parked at owners' risk and at a fee.
When a few of Naij.com staff went to cover the story, one of them was roughly handled by men of the Nigerian Police who were rough-handling drivers and vehicle owners at the scene.
