Abia Governor, PDP Members Kicks Against Former Governor Orji Kalu’s Return

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, led by Governor T. A Orji, yesterday stormed the national secretariat of the party and protested alleged attempt to grant former governor Orji Kalu a waiver to allow him return to the party.

This is just as indications emerged that the Bamanga Tukur-led NWC might have rescinded its decision to re-admit the former governor into the party.

Governor T A Orji, who stormed the secretariat in company of party bigwigs in the state, said if the former governor was allowed to return, the peaceful state of the PDP in the state would be no longer be guaranteed.

In a letter of protest submitted to the leadership of the party and read by the vice-chairman of the PDP (South East), Col. Austine Akobundu, the stakeholders said Orji’s re-admission would precipitate fresh crisis in the state.

“He was the common source of deep-seated animosity and resentment in the state chapter of PDP before he left to form the Progressive Peoples Alliance.

"If the rumours making the rounds presently that he has been making surreptitious moves to be readmitted into the party’s fold are correct then there will surely be cataclysmic consequences for the party Abia State. This controversial and wholly unnecessary move will reignite the fire of trench-warfare among otherwise reconciled members,” Akobundu said.

The delegation which included former national chairman, Vincent Ogbulafor, all member of the national assembly from Abia State, leadership of the state house of assembly further declared that they gathered through “usually reliable intelligence” that Dr. Uzor Kalu sole objective seeking to rejoin PDP was to use its platform to pursue his presidential ambition.
