ABUJA—The out-going Israeli Ambassador in Nigeria, Mr Moshe Ram, weekend, expressed confidence that Nigeria will come out victorious in the current war against terror.
The Israeli envoy spoke at a farewell dinner organised for him and out-going Deputy Head of Mission, Mr George Deek in, Abuja by some Nigerian Non-Governmental Organisations, NGOs.
Ram who expressed confidence in the capacity of the county to overcome the current security challenges said: “You must win this battle. The people of this country are capable of overcoming these challenges; it is a matter of time and training. Nigerians are skillful and intelligent and you have no option than to win this battle.”
Mr. Ram who was posted to Nigeria as Israeli Ambassador in 2007 recalled that in his 37 years in the Foreign Service, working in the country was one of his most exciting and complicated assignments, saying, “My five years in Nigeria were fantastic experiences that I will cherish the rest of my life.
In his remarks, the outgoing Deputy Head of Mission , who has been posted to Norway , described Nigeria as a wonderful country with warm and accommodating people. He said his experience in Nigeria being his first country of posting as a diplomat has prepared for the task ahead.
The farewell dinner was organized by some friendly Non Governmental Organizations to the State of Israel. They include, Nigeria-Israel Chamber of Commerce, Nigeria-Israel Business Forum, Militant Women Intercessors, Plus Factor International and Shalom Club Nigeria whose founding officials were formally induct at the occasion.
Meanwhile Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has expressed concern over the escalating circle of violence in the country.
A statement made available to journalists at the weekend by the High Commission of Canada and signed by the Public Affairs Officer, Ezinne Uluocha quoted Baird as saying, “ Canada is deeply concerned by the escalating violence that has claimed the lives of scores of Nigerians and has injured many others.
