The Ogun State Police command on Wednesday morning took over the Secretariat of the Ogun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This followed a bloody clash in the early hours of the day between factions loyal to former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and business mogul, Buruji Kashamu.
It would be recalled that the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur had on Saturday acknowledged the leadership of the Sen. Dipo Odujirin executive, having, according to him, been elected by the people.
Odujirin and top principal officers, including Chief Bode Mustapha were present to receive the National Chairman during a visit to former President and Board of Trustees chairman, Chief Obasanjo at the event.
This may have sent the wrong signal to the Kashamu faction who resorted to a forceful attempt to take over the party secretariat.
The Odujirin led executives, it was further learnt was to have its weekly meeting later today, before the attack.
According to eye-witness accounts, the suspected thugs arrived the Secretariat at about 8.00am and met stiff resistance from the gateman before a free-for-all fight broke out.
The prompt intervention by the Police and the State Security Service (SSS) led to the closure of the Secretariat. An unconfirmed report said that five persons were arrested.
Also, the gateman was allegedly hit with strange object and was pouring blood from his mouth before he was rushed to the hospital.
The State Police Commissioner, Ikemefuna Okoye who arrived the premises at about 11.00am said the Police and other security agencies were there to prevent e break down of law and other.
The two factions are to brief newsmen later in the day.
