Police arrest DIG’s killers in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two persons in connection with the killing of a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Saleh Ningi.

Besides, new facts before the police showed that the murder of Ningi was masterminded by his close associate, one Salihu Amma.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, at a press briefing, said, “One Salihu Amma, 34 years, was arrested in Hotoron Haye. He confessed to being part of the conspiracy that culminated in the assassination of the late DIG.

“Goni admitted that he was the mastermind of the plot. He was very close to the late senior officer and used his closeness to plan and carry out the act.

“He monitored the late officer in his factory and as he departed the factory, he alerted Alhaji Gana Bukar, who together with one other suspect now at large, ambushed the DIG and assassinated him.”

The police boss added that, Gana also confessed to the police that he was behind the killing of a Chief Superintendent of Customs and a State Security Service officer who was murdered last month in cold blood at his residence in Hotoro Tishama quarters.

He said the suspects had been transferred to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Meanwhile, Gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect on Tuesday night attacked a police station and prison bombing and a shooting in Kano sporadically in the proces.

The attack occurred in the police station and prison located near businessman and Islamic leader, Sheikh Isyaku Rabiu’s house at Goron Dutse area in Dala Local Government Area of Kano metropolis at about 6pm.

However, the number of casualties could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.

A resident told our correspondent that a reasonable number of people might have lost their lives, including civilians, security operatives and the terrorists.
