APGA chairman in the state, Mr. Marshal Okoroafor-Anyanwu, who confirmed the setting up of the probe committee, however, noted that Senator Anyanwu had a history of disrespecting constituted authorities.

“The senator has a history of disrespecting her elders and constituted authority,” Ukah alleged.

The Imo APGA boss, however, commended Okorocha for “exhibiting maturity and utmost humility in handling the situation that could have led to loss of lives.”

When reminded that he had already taken a position ahead of the expected report of the committee, the APGA boss insisted that the panelists would still do their job.

At the time of going to press, the composition of the panel and their terms of reference remained a guarded secret but careful political watchers in the state believe that the setting up of the committee was to fulfill all righteousness.

Meanwhile, while a group known as Friends of Senator Chris Anyanwu, FOSCA, were at Maria Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri, to appeal to Archbishop Anthony J.V. Obinna to call Governor Okorocha to order.

Speaking on behalf of FOSCA, Chief Obinna Ibe narrated how the senator’s convoy was blocked by the governor’s team who pulled out Ukah and beat up mercilessly.

He showed Archbishop Obinna a picture of Ukah’s battered and bleeding head, even as he denied that Senator Anyanwu hit the governor’s security detail as claimed.

“The action of the governor’s aides was a clear show of shame and abuse of power.

“If this could be done to a serving senator, only God can tell the fate of the ordinary Imo man,” Ibe said.

Responding, Archbishop Obinna said although he had not heard from Okorocha, he appealed to Nigerians to refrain from violence and bloodletting.

“I appeal to Nigerians not to resort to violence and bloodletting, as we have had enough violence in the country,” Obinna said.

Reiterating his stand on good governance and upright leadership, the fiery Catholic cleric recalled that Okorocha was among the gubernatorial candidates that promised good governance at a public forum organized by the Archdiocese for governorship candidates in the state.
