Major Shake-up In Nigerian Navy

The authorities of the Nigerian Navy have approved massive redeployment of senior officers of flag ranks in the service.

The 224 senior officers comprise 49 Rear Admirals, 106 Commodores and 69 Captains.

A statement by the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Kabiru Aliyu, said the appointments would take effect from the second and third week of January, 2012.

It was learnt that many of the affected officers were newly promoted and had to be redeployed to positions relevant to their new ranks in the service.

The Naval spokesman stated that while the former Admiral Superintendent in charge of the Naval Dockyard, Rear Admiral JN Amaino, had become the Director of Marine Engineering, his counterpart at the Naval Shipyard, Port Harcourt, Rear Admiral DB Boer, was moved to the Naval Dockyard, Lagos.

Also, the Chief of Policy and Plans of the Navy, Rear Admiral JB Oladimeji, and the Chief of Logistics, Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral U. O. Jibrin , were redeployed to the Defence Headquarters as Chief of Administration and Chief of Logistics respectively.

The Commandant of the National Defence College, Rear Admiral Thomas Lokoson, retained his position.

Rear Admiral KO Komolafe, who was Chief of Accounts and Budgets, is now Managing Director, Nigerian Navy Holdings, while the Chief of Training and Operations at the Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral EO Ogbor is Chief of Policy and Plans, Naval Headquarters.

The changes also affected the Commandant, Nigerian Navy engineering College, Sapele, Rear Admiral O. E. Ekwe, who is now the Admiral Superintendent in charge of the Naval Shipyard, Port Harcourt; the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral AOA Ikiode who is now Moderator, National Institute of Command; and the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral OB Ogunjimi, who is now Chief of training and Operations, Naval Headquarters.

Others are Rear Admiral SA Orie, former Director of Curriculum and Programme Develop National Defence College, Abuja, now MD, Nigerian Navy Engineering Services Support Company Ltd; Rear Admiral DO Osuofa, the former Deputy Commandant, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, appointed Director of Logistics, Defence Intelligence Agency; Rear Admiral BM Mshelia, the erstwhile Chairman of the Military Pension Board, now Chief of Accounts and Budget, Naval Headquarters among others.
