As Aregbesola Commissions N126m Mini Electric Power Line In Osun

As part of six integral action plan of the present administration in Osun state ,the State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, has commissioned the 7.5MVA injection electricity station project which is referred to as Mini Power line Electrification project valued N126m in Moro, Ife North local government area of the State.

Leadership also gathered that the state government embarked on the capital intensive rural electrification projects in the state as part of measures to improve the socio-economic development of the people.

It was reliably learnt that Rauf Aregbesola’s administration has completed 77 rural electrification projects across the state within two years of its coming to power compared to the immediate past administration of Olagunsoye Oyinlola that delivered 48 rural electrification projects in seven years.

Investigations revealed that the communities in the area experienced a setback in their electricity supply early this year when the 2,5 MVA Transformer powering the area developed a problem and broke down.

The communities affected by the rural electrification projects are: Akinlalu,Asipa, Yakoyo, Moro, Ipetumodu, Edunabon and Isope.

Being a responsive and responsible government and upon receiving the report, approached the service provider (Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company), to solve the power problem but the service provider informed the government that much as they would have loved to intervene, the project was not included in their yearly programme.

Realising that the people of the area will continue to suffer, Governor Aregbesola decided in August 2012, to take the bull by the horn and approved the upgrading of the sub-station to a 7.5 MVA through direct labour by the office of Rural and Community Development.

It was also learnt that due to the resilient efforts of the state government and the co-operation of the service provider, this kind of project which should normally take not less than six months, was completed within four months, noting that this intervention was the first of its kind for any community since the creation of the state 21 years ago.

Speaking during the official commissioning of the mini power line project, Aregbesola said that another 27 electrification projects are currently ongoing and would be completed within the next three months which would make it 99 rural electrification projects.

The Governor who disclosed that the rural electrification projects would be in addition to the 35 units of distribution transformers that have been handed out this year alone to the different communities where they were required.

Recalling that for the seven and a half years that the ousted administration of Olagunsoye Oyinlola spent in office, it completed only 48 electrification projects, saying that “this again has clearly explained the difference between us and them”.

According to him, the provision of the Injection Station was a demonstration of his administration’s commitment to bring about stable supply of electricity across the length and breadth of the state.

He said that in order to meet the need of the people, the state government had to go out of its way to provide the transformer which ordinarily should be the responsibility of the federal government.

“For us, government is owned by the people; it is their institution for improving their welfare. We believe that the task of government is to transform the lives of the people for the better; by delivering social goods that have direct positive impact on their daily existence”, the governor said.

He explained further why the state government decided to grant the request of the Origbomeje Community to intervene and end the cloud of darkness that had loomed over them for months, noting that his administration’s commitment to make life comfortable for the people could hardly be achieved without electricity.

He said: “Our achievements in different areas so far have evidently convinced our people that we are truly in a different era; an era of responsible and focused government. Our own administration is one that keeps its promises to the people. Our government is one that puts the people first and keeps them in focus. We will continue to show our people that our word to them is a sacred oath that we will continue to honour.

He said that the present administration is committed to continue giving the best to the people in line with its six-point integral action plan.

Similarly, Executive Secretary, Ife North Local government area of the State, Mr Lanre Ogunyimika, who could not hide his joy over the historical project, acknowledged the kind gesture of Governor Rauf Aregbesola for the passion and love he has for the people of the area.

Ogunmiyika said, “May I, equally on behalf of the entire people of our dear state, appreciate series of developmental projects that are currently going on across the state. In fact, your holistic approach to the development of the state is second to none in the annals of the history of our state. It is my fervent prayer that God will spare your life and bless you with the required resources to enable you complete the projects in earnest”.
