Kaduna State House of Assembly on Thursday directed the state government to clear bushes along all high ways in the state to enhance security and reduce accidents.
The assembly adopted the resolution after deliberating on a motion raised by the Majority Leader, Alhaji Balarabe Jigo. Jigo, representing Kakangi constituency in Birnin Gwari Local Government said that the motion was spurred by the need to reduce the recurrent problems of insecurity and high rate of road accidents in the state.
He noted that the bushes were contributing to road crashes and providing shelter to miscreants, especially in the Birnin Gwari axis. He appealed to the assembly to direct the state government to clear "at least one kilometer of bushes along the Birnin Gwari road which is characterised by so many disasters."
Also commenting, Mr Kantiok Irimiya moved for the amendment f the motion to every part of the state, which was adopted. The house directed its Committee on Environment to ensure that relevant government agencies implement the resolution of the assembly.
Meanwhile, the House has referred the bill on the 2013 Budget to its Committee on Appropriation after its second reading. The house which resumed sitting Thursday after a three-week recess was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Mr Dogara Matoh.
It observed one minute silence in honour of Alhaji Mohammed Iliyasu, a former member of the assembly between 2003 and 2011, who died on Tuesday.
