Arsene Wenger has launched a furious blast at Arsenal's critics and raged: “I want to lose the game tomorrow so you can all be happy.”
The Frenchman was speaking ahead of the Gunners’ crunch Champions League clash with Bayern Munich at the Emirates.
And he was left incensed when reminded that the European competition was his last chance this season to end Arsenal’s eight-year trophy drought.
Wenger fumed: “I want to lose it and I want to lose the game tomorrow so you can all be happy.”
After regaining his temper, he added: “Of course we want to win it. But in Europe recently you face other teams who have quality.
“Barcelona have some qualities, Real Madrid have some qualities — but they don’t win it every year.
“We have been consistently there and what we want now is to break through. We’ve been in a final, we’ve been in a semi-final, we’ve been in the quarter-finals for years.
“People will say it’s maybe not the best opportunity now to do it.
“I think it’s a fantastic opportunity to do it because I believe I have a strong team and I am sure they will prove me right.
“What is important is to forget what people say and focus on our strengths.
“We play for Arsenal in the last-16 of the Champions league, we have qualified now for a long, long time.
“What is important is not what people say, it is what we produce on the football pitch.
“We live in a democracy of experts and opinions but we have to live with that and cope with that and show we have the mental strength to deal with any opinion.
“There are a lot of experts who are not necessarily always right.”
Wenger went on the attack when asked about Arsenal’s shock FA Cup defeat to Blackburn on Saturday.
And the Gunners boss insists he DID take the game seriously, despite resting a number of key stars.
Wenger added: “Here this is a pre-match conference for the Champions League, if you want to talk about Saturday, that Press conference has been made after the game.
“Can we get some questions about tomorrow’s game, that would be very nice.
“I’ve been accused of not taking seriously the FA Cup on Saturday. I’ve won four times the FA Cup. Who has won it more? Give me one name?
“We have been accused of not putting a strong team out. I think that is an insult to the players that started the game.
“There were 11 international football players out on the pitch.
“And I would like to tell you as well that we didn’t lose the game with the players who started. We lost the game in the last 10, 20 minutes.
“There is a lot of superficial analysis that you cannot accept.
“We have to accept we have to take the blame because we went out.
“But you have to put things into perspective. You have to really analyse it, just because one guy says one thing, everybody has to go the same way.”
