Nigeria, Now A Killing Field – ACN

Action Congress of Nigeria has blamed the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government for the insecurity in the country.

In a statement on Wednesday by Lagos State Publicity Secretary, ACN, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, the party described the country as “vast killing field.”

It said, “We are worried that Nigeria has become a vast killing field, where citizens fall prey to all manners of crimes. We are concerned that most of the crimes have gone unresolved; only to be displaced by more heinous and audacious crimes.

“Our fear stems from the critical role security of lives and property play in the development and progress of nations, and we fear Nigeria is fast degenerating as the high level of insecurity threatens all facets of our national lives.”

The ACN explained that the Federal Government  and its agents were playing politics with the security situation in the country, “rather than looking for measures in tracking down and reducing the insecurity in Nigeria.”

It said the insecurity in the country was caused by bad governance, stressing that since 1999 many assassination cases had not been unravelled.

The ACN added that the Federal Government should learn from the Lagos State Government, which had handled security challenges in the state well through the provision of job opportunities to keep the youth busy.

The party said, “We want to task the Federal Government to start immediately to address the security problems facing the country from the source by urgently making job creation a priority.

“We believe that the supply chain to perpetrators of insecurity will be broken with a robust job creation strategy that targets idle youths.

“Again we urge the Federal Government to invest meaningfully in security giving its critical role in the polity.”
