Anenih, Atiku, PDP Govs challenge Tukur

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, and former Chair-man of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Tony Anenih, over the weekend, challenged the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, to ensure that internal democracy is entrenched in the party where every member would have a sense of belonging.

Also, the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, pledged that he and his colleagues would ensure a hitch free tenure for the new national chairman through cooperation. Atiku, Amaechi, Anenih spoke at the country home of Tukur in Mayo kalare during a reception hosted by the zone.

The former vice-president urged the new leadership of the party to ensure that there is fairness, justice, rule of law, transparency in forms of election within the PDP as that will install discipline and respect in the party.

Atiku urged the new leadership of the PDP to work towards ensuring that the PDP controlled states increased dramatically in the forth coming elections, just as he stressed that there must be unity in the party, free speech, principle of consultation.

According to him, the zone must use the opportunity to address the insecurity following the activities of the Boko Haram sect that have led to loss of lives and property.

Amaechi, who is also the chairman of the  Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) promised that all the governors elected on the platform of the party would ensure that during Tukur’s reign, all doors of fractions were closed, just as they expressed their total support and loyalty to the leadership of the party.


He was represented by the governor of Niger State and Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum (NGF), Mu’zu Babangida Aliyu, said: “Bamanga is a responsible elder who will add value to the party, therefore, as PDP governors, we resolve to support you to achieve desired results.”

On his part, Anenih who spoke for the South-south Zone described Tukur as a manager of men, a bridge builder, tasked Tukur to ensure that he tackled indiscipline in the party head on.

Former PDP National Chairman, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, who spoke for the South-east, said the message for the Zone for Tukur was for him to succeed in his assignment.

“We have great prayers for you to succeed, I have been asked to say that God is with you; He will grant you good health, knowledge, wisdom to lead the party. South East is behind you, to provide the needed support and service anytime you need us,” he said.

Equally, former Minister of Education, Professor Tunde Adeniran, who spoke for the South-west, described the celebration as an emerging hope, a new dawn and a celebration of the passage of an old order.

Similarly, Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada, who spoke for the North Central however urged the new leadership of the party to reposition the PDP to ensure that it wins all the election, just as he said the zone was wishing Tukur good health.
