A non governmental organisation, Vichiano Services is set to make women who are 'plus size' in the society have every reasons to break away from their shells of low self esteem so as to compete with their 'lepa' counterparts.
This is because the group has concluded plans to hold a beauty pageant for 'plus sizes' in the society. The beauty show is also aimed at creating an awareness for fibroids and infertility among women. Free surgery would also be given to women with fibroids.
According to Victoria Iheakonye, who is the initiator of the programme, a fibroid doctor, Dr Alabi has agreed to provide with the surgery through her clinic. The group would visit seven states for the awareness and screenings for the beauty contest.
The pageant is tagged 'Miss Plussize African Beauty Pageant'. Prospective contestants would get a form worth 2000 Naira. There would be screenings in seven states which include Ibadan, Asaba, Port-Harcourt, Owerri, Abuja, Uyo and Lagos. The screenings would run from July 29 to August 29, 2012. The grand finale is set to hold in Delta State on September 16.
At each of the screening cities, there would be a campaign for fibroid awareness. Three women suffering from fibroid would be chosen from each of the seven states visited. These women would enjoy free surgery on the removal of the fibroid.
Speaking on the beauty pageant, Victoria said that the winner of the contest would go away with a brand new car, One million Naira cash prize, engaged in humanitarian activity by creating an awareness campaign on fibroid and fertility in women throughout her reign, among other benefits.
