Police in Plateau State have arrested 28 suspected criminals, including a man suspected to have killed a soldier attached to the Special Task Force.
State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Emmanuel Ayeni, who spoke at new conference in Jos on Monday, said 102 underage girls, believed to be prostitutes, were also arrested.
Ayeni said, “The girls are aged between 12 and 16 years and they were arrested dancing naked at Pleasure Inn at Shendam Street and Mandela Hotel at Rwang Pam Street.”
He said the arrest followed a tip-off.
“The suspects were interrogated and on request, handed over to the Plateau State Ministry of Social Development for rehabilitation,’’ he said.
According to him, the suspected killer of the soldier is identified as Abdullahi Abubakar.
Ayeni also said four members of a robbery gang who had been terrorising Mangu area of the state were arrested.
He added that items recovered from them include five empty shells of 5.5mm and two empty shells of 7.62 mm ammunition, one plate cover penetrated with bullets.
The CP added, “In the last one month, a total of 13 cars and 11 motorcycles were recovered at different locations and some of them have been released to the owners.
“Property valued at N11m were also recovered.”
He restated the command’s resolve to ending the violence in the state, advising members of the public to collaborate with the police and other security agencies to rid the state of evil people.
