Buhari Appoints DG Of Budget Office

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has named Aliyu Yahaya Gusau as new director-general of the Budget Office of the federation.

A statement by Marshall Gundu, the director of press and public relations at the federal ministry of finance, said the nomination takes effect from Tuesday, August 18, with a term of four years renewable for another four years.

Gusau comes from Zamfara state. He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree in Economics from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

Until his nomination, the budget office chief was the director of fiscal policy, budget monitoring and evaluation and the acting director general of the Budget Office of the federation at the exit of the former director general, Dr Bright Okogu.

Until his appointment in December 2007, Mr. Okogu held several top positions, including Senior Economist, International Monetary Fund, IMF, in Washington DC; Senior Operations Officer at the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, Fund and Market Analyst, OPEC Secretariat in Vienna, Austria.

Many Nigerians are keenly anticipating the appointment of President Buhari’s cabinet.

However, the Nigerian leader is not in a hurry to form his cabinet.

Some southern groups earlier accused Buhari of operating a northern government. However, the president said that he had a national agenda and no others.
