The former Commonwealth super middleweight champion, Isaac ‘Grenade’ Ekpo, was in full rage as he pummeled Jules Kabore of Burkina Faso, explaining that boxing is part of his military job.
Speaking to Naij.com after his victory at the Indoor Sports Hall of the national stadium in Surulere, Lagos on October 25, 2015, Ekpo revealed that he would now go for the world title.
He said: “Right now I am still in the Super Middle-Weight category, but I am going for the world title anytime from now. This is just a fight, two losses and twenty-one knock-outs.”
The Nigerian boxer who is also a soldier in the Nigerian army, showed-up at the venue of the GOtv Boxing Night with some of his colleagues who cheered him on while the bout lasted.
Ekpo who had boasted that Kabore would 'see hell' was at his best all through the fight. The boxer was disappointed when the bell which signaled the end of the second round helped his opponent survive the round.
The obviously weak Kabore had to surrender at the end of the fourth round as he could not continue to receive the devastating blows of the ‘Grenade’.
Ekpo revealed the secret of his success: “It is the power-punches behind it and the game plan between I and my coach. He told me to take it easy with him.
"Nigerians should expect very good things from Isaac Ekpo and I promise not to lose any belt. Instead of that, I will add more by the grace of God, not by my power,” he promised.
