Over 7,000 APC Supporters Set To Join PDP In Ondo State

No fewer than 7,000 members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state are perfecting plans to defect to the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to feelers from Akure, the Ondo state capital, the supporters are angry with President Muhammadu Buhari over lingering fuel crisis and continued economic downturn which has led to increased hardship for Nigerian citizens.

One of the APC members who pleaded anonymity said the present administration is not particularly doing anything to strengthen the nation's economy and they are compelled to dump the party for the opposition as they believe more opportunities abound there.

They decamping supporters said since APC emerged with majority seats at the National Assembly and states, Nigerians have been hit with rapidly declining economic fortunes which have led to massive losses of jobs, free fall of the naira, massive withdrawals from the stock market, closure of businesses, unending fuel queues that are getting longer everyday, brutality of the military, flagrant disobedience of court orders, insecurity, lack of any economic policy or blueprint, among several other issues.

Many of the defecting APC members said they feel betrayed by the party as it has become obvious that it lacked the well publicised capacity to move the nation forward and now see the campaign promises of the party as nothing but 'empty noise'.

The APC members who vowed that nothing would stop them from concluding their defection, told Legit.ng correspondent in Akure that they are now very ashamed to be associated with the party.

They further said their motivation for defecting is to ensure that their state does not fall victim of APC'S machination, manipulation and propaganda as it has become obvious that the party lacks the necessary capacity to continue the good legacies of the incumbent governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko.

Citing the case of Osun state which they describe as pathetic, they vowed to support and work for the governor and the PDP to "ensure Ondo does not slide into coma like Osun State."

Also in Bayelsa, Governor Seriake Dickson is set to receive 3,000 APC members to the PDP shortly before the supplementary election in the state on January 9, 2016.

Other states severely hit by the mass defections are Taraba, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Kaduna, Rivers, Niger and Osun.

In a rather ironical circumstance, two former supporters of Mimiko's, Senator Ayo Akinyelure, and Dr Pius Osunyikanmi, have dumped the PDP for the APC.
