- He also served as governor of Katsina state from 29 May 1999 to 28 May 2007

- He died May 5 and his vice, Goodluck Jonathan, took over.

Late Umaru Musa Yar'adua became the Nigerian president in 2007 and ruled the coutry for three years before his tenure was cut short by ill health.

Before becoming the president, Yar'adua served 8 years as governor of Katsina state.
