Akeredolu Campaign Organisation on Wednesday asked the people of Ondo State to disregard allegations that the Action Congress of Nigeria planned to import supporters from the ACN controlled states for the forthcoming October 20 election.
A statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Campaign Organisation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, also said it was not true that Chief Bola Tinubu was using Adaba FM, Unique FM, TVC Lagos to incite the people against the government.
ACO was reacting to an allegation by the Director-General of the Olusegun Mimiko Campaign Organisation, Mr. Akin Adaramola, on Wednesday that the ACN was inciting the people against the government using programmes on a private radio station owned by a leading figure in the party.
Adaramola said, “The plans include hiring a faceless individual who was handed a mandate to embark on direct character assassination, propaganda, and outright falsehoods aimed at creating tension and poison the minds of the people against the government.
“Specifically, the hired goon went on air to tell a fabricated tale in a diabolical fashion that portrayed the Labour Party leadership in the state as engaging in fetish activities.”
The DG also alleged that the ACN had also resolved to establish a branch of the television station, owned by Tinubu in Ikere-Ekiti, a border town with Ondo where they will continue to spread their propaganda and falsehood.
He said, “The establishment of the TV station was aimed at complementing Adaba FM in Akure and Unique FM in Ilesa.”
However, Ajanaku described Adaramola’s allegation as, “very unfortunate, saying the Labour Party, which benefited immensely from the same media organisations during the “struggle to recover the stolen mandate of Governor Olusegun Mimiko could now turn around to wrongly accuse them.”
He said, “It is imperative to note that the media is very important in our democracy and good governance and should not be cowed. At this very moment this media organisation being vilified, has the jingles of Mimiko and his Labour Party running on them while he has refused the opposition the use of the state-owned media organisations.
“It is Mimiko that should be asked why he has pocketed the media organisation being funded by tax payers money and has reduced them to his personal propaganda machine while fencing off the opposition parties.”
