Ondo People Can’t Be Captured– Mimiko

Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has described as “absurd” a statement credited to one of the political parties that it would capture the state in the October 20 governorship election.

Mimiko said in his campaign rally in Idanre on Saturday the people would resist any attempt to use the resources of the state to serve the interest of godfathers.

He said, “We shall use the resources of Ondo State to serve the interest of our people. We will resist every attempt by those who want to divert resources of our dear state to service the interest of any godfather anywhere in Nigeria.

“We are making progress in Ondo State and our projects are positively touching the lives of everybody. Those who want to take over power at all costs are merely thinking of annexing the state as part of their territories in the South-West.

“They said they would conquer our state but we shall put an end to their territorial expansionist tendency. Nobody can capture our people because we are not grasscutters or rabbits that could be captured in the bush.

“Ondo people are inheritors of a rich heritage so those who are thinking of capturing them in order to expand their territories will meet their waterloo come October 20.”

Mimiko pledged to construct a road to link Idanre with Ofosu on the Benin-Ore Expressway if re-elected.

The Labour Party candidate for the poll said the Idanre-Ofosu Road will shorten the journey of those travelling to Lagos.

He said Ondo was the only state in the South-West boasting good governance, education, and health care delivery.

The governor said, “Our universities are charging the least tuition fee of N25, 000 compared to those in other South-West states that are charging between N150, 000 and N300, 000 per student.”

A community leader, Chief Alex Akinadeju, said Mimiko had promised to employ five unemployed graduates in each of the 10 wards in Idanre if voted.

Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, who is also from the town, said Idanre had had its fair share of developmental projects executed by the Mimiko administration in the last three and half years.
