Abdulmumin Jibrin has vowed never to apologise to Yakubu Dogara over allegations that the speaker and others padded the 2016 budget.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and other key members of the House may find themselves in trouble following calls by a new alliance of lawmakers for investigation into the alleged budget fraud against the speaker.

The new group, called Transparency Group, is demanding that the alleged budget fraud against Yakubu Dogara, and other key members as revealed by the appropriation chairman, Abdulmumin Jibrin, who left office last week, be investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Premium Times reports.

The group’s spokesperson, Mohammed Soba said the group was not affiliated with any interest in the House.

“We are not Gbajabiamila’s group,” the group said, referring to the majority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, who contested but lost the speakership election to Dogara.

“We are not Dogara’s group; and we are not Jibrin’s group.

“Our main purpose is that there is transparency in the House.

“We are demanding independent investigation into the allegations because this matter is purely criminal. Padding of the budget of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is criminal. So nobody should expect us to fold our arms to watch the appointees of the Speaker investigate the Speaker in the name of the Ethics and Privileges Committee,” Soba said.

He said the issue of the budget of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is beyond the House and needs an investigation from outside the House.

Meanwhile, Abdulmumin Jibrin, the former chairman of Appropriations Committee of the House of Representatives, has revealed why he is just speaking out, following alleged fraud in the budget padding scandal.

Jibrin who has continued to accuse Yakubu Dogara of the substantial fraud, said he has decided to speak out now so that in 2019 only corrupt free people will serve in the House, Premium Times reports.
