The rate of drug abuse in Jos is high owing to frequent crises and because youths who normally cause mayhem under the influence of drugs fall back on drugs to withstand the physiological effect of the mayhem, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said yesterday in Jos.
The Assistant Commander (Administration & Logistics) of the Plateau State Command of the agency, Mrs Anne Nwora, who stood in for the Commander, Ralph Igwenagwu, spoke while receiving officials of the Association of Northern Youths for the Advancement of Peace, Harmony and Development at the NDLEA office in Jos.
She said the fight against drug abuse in Jos is a peculiarly difficult experience for the reason that going for drug users is made delicate by the intricate security situation in Jos and other parts of the state.
“The rate of drug abuse in Jos is high, very high; because before somebody can get to kill another, he takes drug and after killing that person, he needs to take more drugs to douse the effect,” she said.
President of the Association of Northern Youths for the Advancement of Peace, Harmony and Development, Melvin Ejeh, said his association is concerned that so many youths are ruining their lives and harming society because of the deprecating influence of drugs.
