Police arrests MASSOB members during protest

- Some members of MASSOB on a protests in Onitsha were arrested by the police

- The separatist group however claimed they were shot

+- They appealed to the police to release its members

The Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has claimed the country was not treating them well following the arrest of its members by security operatives.

The group through Ralph Uwazuruike who is its founder announced plans to celebrate 17 years of non-violent agitation for independence of Biafra and this was done on Tuesday, September 13.

Vanguard reports that Mrs Nkeiruka Nwode who is the spokesperson of the Anambra state police command revealed that 14 suspected members of the group have been arrested.

She said they were rounded up in different parts of the town for illegal profession although no life was lost in the arrest.

However, Rev. Apostle Ezichukwu who is the religious administrator of MASSOB claimed that one person was shot while more than 50 members were arrested and 20 missing.

He wondered why the members were arrested for engaging in a peaceful protest.

He alleged that “security personnel from the army, police, navy and NSCDC were detaining MASSOB members at the Army Barracks, Onitsha, police headquarters, Awka and other police stations. “

Mr Benjamin Omenka who is the zonal leader of MASSOB appealed for the release of those arrested and urged members of the group to be patient.

“Let the whole world know that we are resolute in our stand for a Biafra Republic.

“It is not compulsory that we shall remain one indivisible nation, so they should allow us to go to our Promised Land.”

Meanwhile, Uwazuruike reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s state­ment on Tuesday when he visited the Benin Crown prince, Edaiken of Benin, Eheneden Erediauwa at his palace.

The leader of Biafra Independence Move­ment, said that regardless of the president’s speech, Biafra will not be stopped.
