- A Lagos state university student, Pelumi Olugbenga, has won Hessselben scholarship award to attend leadership summit in United States (US)

- He won the scholarship having come first ahead of 49 student leaders that were eventually selected across the six continents of the world with only five from Africa including Pelumi Olugbenga

- Hesselben scholarship is awarded to the best student in Nigerian university because there were several applications from accomplished university students across the globe

Pelumi Olugbenga, a quintessential 300-level student from the Department of History and International Studies, Faculty of Arts, Lagos state University, has won Hessselben scholarship award to attend leadership summit in United States (US).

Olugbenga emerged as one of the five newly selected Hesselbein International Scholars from Africa who will participate in the 2017 Hesselbein Global Leadership Summit at the prestigious Hesselbein Global Academy for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement, University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States of America in July, 2017.

Legit.ng gathered that the Hesselbein Global Leadership Summit was held at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States offers participants a transformative, globally-minded leadership experience.

The Hesselbein Student Leadership Summit would converge in Pittsburgh for an intensive four-day experience.

Olugbenga's successful selection was by no means an easy feat because there were several applications from accomplished university students across the globe.

Meanwhile, it was just fifty student leaders that were eventually selected across the six continents of the world with only five from Africa including Pelumi Olugbenga as the new set of Hesselbein International Scholars.

The globally competitive selection process demands interested student leaders across the world to summit requirements such as

Olugbenga's Hesselbein scholarship covers his tuition, feeding, accommodation, transportation and other expenses in the Academy.

Upon his completion of the Leadership Summit, Mr Pelumi will be conferred with a prestigious Fellowship of Hesselbein Global Academy for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement, University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States.

The VC used the opportunity urged other students to take a cue from the world class feat of Mr Pelumi Olugbenga by blazing the frontiers of excellence in all their endeavors.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Philip Alabi is a Nigerian who graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) and is filling shelves in African universities with much-needed textbooks donated by faculty and students around the world.

The initiative he set up is called Efiwe, which is the Yoruba word for “bookworm." Philip Alabi’s fervor for equipping West African post-secondary students with badly-needed textbooks and related resources led to the formation of this wonderful organization.
