Anambra guber: DSS, Police beef up security at INEC office

- The anti-bomb squad of the Nigeria Police Force recently detected an object which looks like an improvised explosive device at the INEC office in Anambra state

- A source says the device was uncovered when the anti-bomb squad combed the entire compound

- This has prompted the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to beef of the office at the electoral commission

The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Awka, Anambra state has been beefed up with maximum security.

The deployment of extra security may not be unconnected to the recent alleged discovery of an object which looked like an improvised explosive device (IED) at the office.

The device was uncovered when the anti-bomb squad of the Nigeria Police Force combed the entire compound on Monday morning, November 13, looking for the suspected device.

Personnel of the Directorate of State Services are also on standby to maintain peace and order

The bomb scare at the INEC Nigeria office in Awka, last week has prompted the beefing up of security ahead of the Anambra state governorship election.

Legit.ng observed that men of the Directorate of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force Anti Bomb Squad (EOD), Force Armament Unit, Mounted Troops, Sniffer Dogs and Armoured Personnel Carriers have been deployed to the office.

The road leading to the INEC office has also been cordoned off as visitors are subjected to thorough search by security personnel on ground.

Meanwhile, INEC has started distributing sensitive materials for the Anambra state governorship election billed for Saturday, November 18.

Legit.ng observed the movement of the materials from the INEC office at the state capital, to various local governments.

The materials were escorted by heavily armed security personnel, alongside local and international observers.
