Armed robbers storm popular supermarket; police guard killed

Suspected armed robbers have allegedly killed a police guard during a robbery operation at the popular Ladan Wapa supermarket along Katsina-Kano.

The tragic incident happened on Sunday, January 21, as the gunmen reportedly stormed the supermarket shooting sporadically.

The robbers shot at the police officer who was providing security at the place and took away his gun.

They also carted away a lot of money from the supermarket.

Unknown gunmen have yesterday stormed the popular Ladan Wapa supermarket along Katsina-Kano road killing an officer on duty and carting-away undisclosed sum of money and other goods.

A source in the supermarket, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “Three gunmen arrived the supermarket at 8:20 pm with Volkswagen car cruising and sporadically shooting toward the direction of the supermarket that led to the death of the police officer on duty.

The gunmen were said to have brutally shot the police officer in cold blood snatching away his gun, carting away with all the sales proceeds of the day.

Another unconfirmed source stated that “The gunmen had earlier visited the supermarket in a daytime posing as customers which according to him might have hinted them on the sales activities."

The late officer was identified as Sergeant Ibrahim, an indigene of Batsari local government, residing in Rimi town with his family.

Legit.ng had reported that operatives of the of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos state police command arrested five suspected robbers who robbed a 58-year-old woman on New Year’s eve, dispossessing her of local and foreign currencies and other belongings.

The operatives arrested the suspects identified as Shola Oyedele, Adejuwon Adeniyi, Alex Ikoku, Salau Damilola and Mohammed Muritala, at Ikosi, Ketu.

Legit.ng gathers that they carried out the attack at 9pm on New Year’s eve, and stole $800, 400 Qatari Riyald, N45,000, America Visa card, a pouch containing gold trinkets valued at N110,000:00, a purse with an unspecified amount of money and an Hawaii phone from their victim identified as Alhaja.
