Army neutralizes remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa forest

- Remnants of Boko Harm terrorists in Sambisa forest have been neutralized by troops of the Nigerian army involved in Operation Deep Punch II

- Seven terrorists were killed, many others were wounded, and several high grade ammunitions were recovered during the operation

- Two soldiers sustained injuries during the operation but are responding to treatment at the moment

Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole involved in Operation Deep Punch II have annihilated the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa forest.

The development was made public in a statement signed by Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman, Director Army Public Relations.

Legit.ng notes that Usman disclosed that the troops, with backing from the Nigerian Air Force, carried out the successful operation on Friday afternoon, January 26.

He revealed that while advancing into Sambisa forest, the troops had come in contact with the terrorists, and proceeded to destroy the insurgents’ equipment, make-shift accommodation around Camp Zero, Improvised Explosives Device (IEDs), booby traps, other delaying obstacles and devices.

The troops also killed seven of the terrorists and wounded several others. They also recovered one gun truck, one anti-aircraft gun, one machine gun, a pistol, large quantity of anti-aircraft gun ammunition, a 120mm mortar base plate and a dane gun.

Unfortunately, two soldiers were wounded during the operation, but are currently receiving treatment.

As a result of the successful operation, the troops have been visited by Major General I.M. Yusuf, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, who conveyed the warmest regards of the chief of army staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai.

The Army has requested that residents of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states promptly report any sightings of wounded and fleeing terrorists around their communities.

Legit.ng previously reported that troops of Operation Lafiya Dole in conjunction with the Nigerian Air Force on Operation Deep Punch, successfully cleared terrorists’ hideouts at Talala, Ajigin, Mangzum, Abagajiri, Kafa, Dusula, Buk, Malumti and Abulam all in Borno state.

This was revealed in a statement sent by the deputy director, army public relations 7 division, Colonel Kingsley Samuel.

According to the statement, the troops, while acting on credible information that the terrorists were massing up at certain camps in the fringes of Sambisa forest, advanced and cleared the insurgents at Shyadawe-Angwan-Fulani, Shyadawe-Angwan-Bula-Musa and Shyadawe.
