Army hands over Dapchi girls to FG (photos)

- The released Dapchi girls have been handed over to the federal government by the Nigeria Army

- The girls who were taken to Abuja are expected to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari

- About six abducted Dapchi schoolgirls are still unaccounted for

The Nigerian Army on Wednesday, March 21, formally handed over 106 abductees to federal government.

Those handed over comprised of 104 Daphi schoolgirls, one other girl and a boy who were freed by Boko Haram insurgents.

Maj.-Gen. Rogers Nicholas, the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, presented the released girls to the minister of information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, at the 105 Air Force Composite Command, Maiduguri.

Nicholas explained that 104 of the girls were from the 110 abducted from Government Science and Technical School, Dapchi, released by the insurgents in the early hours of Wednesday, March 21.

He said the remaining six abducted schoolgirls were still unaccounted, noting that two other abducted girls who were not part of the abducted students were rescued from the insurgents by troops.

The theatre commander added that the rescued girls were brought from Dapchi to Maiduguri together with their parents and guardians.

The minister of information said the federal government adopted proactive measures to secure release of the remaining girls and persons under insurgents’ captivity. Mohammed noted that government was working to end hostilities and enhance peace restoration in the northeast.

The girls’ handover was attended by minister of interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau; minister of state, foreign affairs, Khadija Bukar-Abba and chief of army staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai.

The released girls, alongside their parents and some aid workers boarded a Nigerian Air Force aircraft en route Abuja at about 18.50pm

Meanwhile, parents of abducted Dapchi girls who were released by Boko Haram said the terrorists have told them not to send their children back to western education.

Legit.ng had reported that the girls were released by the terrorists on Wednesday, March 21.

Security operatives were not available as the terrorists reportedly drove into Dapchi town were residents celebrated the return of their children and praised President Muhammadu Buhari.

Meanwhile, Nata Sharibu, father of the remaining student of Federal Government Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe state still in captivity says his daughter refused to denounce God; and so, the terrorists decided not to release her.
