Breaking: PDP reportedly settles for APC governor, Aminu Tambuwal, as presidential candidate

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has reportedly settled for Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal as the presidential candidate of the party in the coming presidential election in 2019.

Tambuwal who is currently the sitting governor of Sokoto is a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

This was disclosed in a tweet by online news site, Sahara Reporters on Thursday, March 22. Legit.ng has however, not independently verified the development.

He was the former speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria who represented the Tambuwal/Kebbe federal constituency of Sokoto state.

On 28 October 2014, Tambuwal defected from the then ruling PDP to the opposition APC and in April 11, 2015, Tambuwal contested and won the governorship election of Sokoto state and was inaugurated on 29 May 2015.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state urged those discussing or clamouring for elective positions in 2019 to stop doing so of its distractions.

Tambuwal who spoke in an interview with select journalists said it was a distraction to talk about 2019 when political office holders just crossed the halfway mark of the four-year tenure.

“I don’t know why you are asking me to comment about 2019 elections when we only just crossed the half way mark of the mandate entrusted to us in 2015.

“Talking about politics of 2019 in 2017 is not helpful. The journey to 2019 is still long. When we get to that bridge, we will cross it.

“This is what I can say for now. People clamouring for political activity at this stage are only distracting mandate holders," he said.
