nPDP members will attend APC national convention - Kawu Baraje

- There have been reports that the new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) members are planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for another party soon

- The reports had suggested the nPDP faction had planned to leave the ruling party on Saturday, June 23, when the ruling party is scheduled to hold its national convention

- The leader of the faction, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, has however dismissed the reports

Contrary to rumours making the rounds, aggrieved members of the APC in nPDP fold, led by Alhaji Kawu Baraje, say they would attend and participate fully in the party’s convention slated for Saturday, June 23, in Abuja.

Baraje disclosed this on Wednesday June 20, in a statement from his media office in Ilorin, Kwara state, distributed to journalists.

He emphasised that his group has no cause not to attend the convention despite their recent disagreements with the APC leadership.

“We are looking forward to the Saturday convention, we will be at the convention and after that, we shall see how things unfold,” he said.

According to him, as a member of the convention committee of the party, he attended a meeting once with other members of the committee but after that initial meeting , he had not been chanced to attend subsequent ones.

Reacting to reports suggesting President Muhammadu Buhari was not interested in meeting with the members of the nPDP, Baraje said the group or himself as the leader of the group would not officially react now.

He explained that when it was necessary for the presidency to invite them for discussion, talk or dialogue, they will invite the group as they are also waiting.

Baraje disclosed that an enlarged membership of the group would meet in the evening (Thursday) to take further actions and a common stand on their positions.

Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital on Sunday, June 17, Senator Ucha, chided Oyegun, over a report credited to him in a national daily that the senator would soon join a few members who would be leaving the party in a few weeks, stressing that Oyegun can’t force him out of the party.
