Terry G, whose real name – Gabriel Oche Amanyi, is a Nigerian performer. He was born in Lagos and grew up in religious family. Terry had three siblings. The boy studied at Starfield Educational Centre but there was no possibility to continue the study due to financial problems. Gabriel’s mother who was choir mistress was the first who introduced the boy to the world of music. She encouraged Gabriel to become the member of Redeemed Christian Church of God and to sing in Oko-Oba choir. Being the singer in choir he had to learn basic concepts and rules of music. He started his music career as a gospel performer. Due to financial problems Amanyi changed this music direction to pop music performance which in future would bring him fame and recognition. After this switch Terry G music was created under the guidance of Faze – one of the most influential musicians of Nigeria. He helped Gabriel to hone his skills and provided back-up vocal.
In 2006 Terry G worked with the artist Kemistry on his music hit entitled “Shake” which was included to the list of the most popular Nigerian songs. In 2008 there was released Terry’s debut music project – the album entitled “Free Me”. It contained several singles – “Shile”, “Otipe” and “Ihotu” which were included to various Nigerian music charts. His single “Shake” was the evidence of Terry’s many-sided music talent. Among Terry G songs the track “Love You Sexy” is considered to be one of the most famous thanks to its skilled dancehall beat and excellent lyrics. The artist performs his songs not only in English but also in Idoma and Yourba. Moreover, he plays keyboard and guitar.
Gabriel’s singles can be described as the combination of especial keyboard sounds and deep lyrics. Terry was the producer of several performers and he also featured on several singles: “Aye Po Gan”, the song of IllBliss and “In Case You Never Know” 2Shots’ single. Terry’s music work confirmed his status as skilful producer, songwriter and musician. In 2009 Gabriel Oche Amanyi released his following album “Ginjah Ur Swaggah Season 1”. Terry’s popular hit song “Free Madness” was included there. Thanks to this track, Terry received influential place in music industry of Nigeria. There are many web-sites where free music compositions of Terry G are available. In 2010 the singer won an award of the category “Best Street Hop” at “Hip Hop World Awards” in Lagos. Besides, Gabriel invited new style of music entitled “Chante Chante”.
