Aisha (née Halilu) Buhari is the second and current wife of Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) who won the 2015 general election, defeating the incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan.
Aisha Buhari was born in Adamawa state in the family of the first Minister of Defense, Mohammadu Ribadu. She was raised in the best traditions of Fulani culture.
Aisha graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University where she earned a Bachelor degree in public administration. She also has a post-graduate diploma of the Academy Esthetique Beauty Institute of France in cosmetology and beauty. Moreover, she is an alumnus of the famous Carlton Institute of London.
She speaks English and Arabic fluently.
In December 1989, Muhammadu Buhari married Aisha Halilu. Together they have five children, a boy and four girls. They are Aisha, Halima, Yusuf, Zarah and Amina.
Before the 2011 general election, Mrs Buhari showed her political sagacity with a successful fund raising dinner for all female candidates of the defunct Congress For Progressive Change (CPC).
Mrs Buhari is reportedly engaged in a private enterprise where she has become an employer of labour, a mentor to all aspiring cosmetologists and a consultant to the KRCP/NNPC on skills acquisition.
Mrs Buhari is also a member of the United Kingdom Vocational Training and Charitable Trust (VTCT), The International Health and Beauty Council (HBC). She also helps women politicians to raise funds for campaigns.
