Benue State News Today

Benue is a state of Nigeria, situated in the south-east of the country. By the area the state is on the 11 place and by the number of citizens – on the 9. There are almost five million people living in the state. The capital of the state is Makurdi.

The state was founded in 1976, near the cognominal river.

As most other states of Nigeria, Benue is inhabited by people of different tribes, who lived near the river for a long time. Each of those tribes has rich and impressive history and culture. The biggest number of people in the state is those representing Tiv ethnic group. So, the most widespread language in the state is supposed Tiv language, although the official language in English.

According to Benue newspaper update, the cultural heritage of the state is impressive, it attracts many tourists who want to visit the region and see some museums, where are represented different historical clothes, implements and so on. Also, it is very popular in the state to carry out different festivals, where people can see traditional dances and listen to ethnic songs and music of various tribes.

The authorities of the state realised the huge tourist potential of the state, and now they are actively working to attract more tourists in future. Benue latest news shows that they are opening different places of interest and some historical places, as well as, improve and develop recreation sector of the state. In the near future, they are going to open more hotels, hostels in the region and improve the liaison.

Benue news informs that the state is one of the youngest ones, but still, it is already a thriving agricultural and farming leader of the country. Natural settings in the state are very good, they are perfect for the cultivation of main agronomic crops.

Also, the live stock breeding is developed in the state.

Makurdi, the capital of the Benue state, is a city which is quite older than the whole state. It was founded almost fifty years before the creation of the state. The population of the town is almost 350 thousand people, most of them are rampant Catholics.

Makurdi is a cultural and economy centre of the whole state, all main financial and social institutions are places in the town.

Also Makurdi is a very important geographical point, as it is placed near the Benue river. There is a huge river port in the town, where many people arrive each day.

Also, there are its own airport, stadium, university, publishing house and many other important points in Makurdi.
