David O Oyedepo is a popular Nigerian author of Christian literature, the founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel). He was born in 1954 in Osogbo. Oyedepo was brought up in a multi religious family. Ibrahim, David’s father, was a Muslim, while his mother Dorcas was one of the members of the Eternal Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement. David’s grandmother brought him up in Osogbo. Then she introduced him to the life of Christianity with the help of prayers and church attendance. During his study in high school the teachers took special interest in David. The boy studied architecture at Kwara State University before concentrating on missionary activity.
Later Oyedepo received the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Human Development at Honolulu University. He strived for saving the world from evil spirits and devil by means of preaching God’s Word. This was one of the reason he founded thee Living Faith Church Worldwide in 1981. In 1983 he became known as Pastor David Oyedepo. In 1988 David was ordained as Bishop. The place of foundation of Living Faith Church was Kaduna, but later, in 1989, it shifted to the former capital of Nigeria, Lagos. The reason was Oyedepo’s intention to start a new branch of the church after he received God’s instructions to keep in touch with the people of Lagos. Besides, David Oyedepo is a publisher and author who has written more than 70 works. He is also a chairman of Dominion Publishing House.
Oyedepo made a contribution to construction of Crown University which is situated in Nigeria. He referred to famous members of Faith Movement including Gloria Copeland, Kenneth Copeland, Smith Wigglesworth, E. W. Kenyon and others. David organized the Word of Faith Bible – a Bible training programme for people to obtain knowledge of Christianity and to form future pastors for churches. Moreover, David is the head of David Oyedepo Ministries International which comprises: large network of churches, Dominion Publishing House, World Mission Agency, and the Social Development Missions projects consisting of schools, maternity homes, hospitals and Covenant University. In 1992 his Dominion Publishing House published more than sixty motivational and Christian books, magazines and many other literary works. David Oyedepo is against corruption in Africa. He has also criticized bad leadership in government.
