Mike Adenuga

Mike Adenuga Jr is a Nigerian magnate and considered to be one of the richest African-Americans on the planet. Adenuga is the owner of the company Globacom, that regulates the largest telephone service provider, he also holds stakes in the Equitorial Trust Bank and company Conoil, which discovers oil.

Adenuga’s property is valued at $ 4.3 billion (March 2013) and he is in second place following Aliko Dangote in the list of the richest Nigerians.

Born April 29, 1953 in Ibadan, having father a modest teacher and mother an entrepreneur , Mike Adenuga had little scope in childhood. He studied at the local Grammar School. When Adenuga entered the University, he had to begin working as a driver to pay for tuition fee. Finally Adenuga finished both Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Pace University in New York as a businessman.

In 1990 Mike Adenuga was granted permission to drilling and began to extract oil successfully in his small company in 1991. By the way Adenuga was given a special GSM permission in 1999. When the next auction was conducted with the support of the state in 2003, the businessman took a second permission because the first was considered to be conditional. In addition his firm Globacom grew rapidly and soon defied the global organization MTN Group. Initially Adenuga’s company had branches only in the Republic of Benin in 2008, but it became popular in other countries in West Africa.

It is worth mentioning that Mike Adenuga deserved the award as African Entrepreneur of The Year on August 15, 2007. However in 2009 Adenuga was accused of corruption, that’s why he had to go to London until the new authorities reprieved him. Furthermore Adenuga became Grand Commander of the Order of Niger in 2012.
